Armory construction project files, 1935-1939.

The Armory Commission was established in 1935 and was composed of the Governor of Alabama, the Adjutant General, the Attorney General and others as appointed by the Governor. The Commission was authorized to finance the construction and maintenance of new or additional armories (Ala. Acts, 276, [1935]). This series documents the construction activities supervised by the Armory Commission from 1935-1940. These records include vouchers, contracts, project proposals, labor records, progress reports, leases, press releases, and other construction records. The records contain information about the construction expenditures (itemized and general), vendors, construction schedules, and regulations covering new construction or renovation of armories throughout Alabama.
